Early Bird Registration is now open! It’s time to introduce you to the next member of the Convention team 2019, Doris Lim.
Name: Doris Lim
Club: SI Bangsar
Position: Local Co-Chair – Public Relations and Communications
Q: How long have you been a Soroptimist and when did you join the organisation
“Since 1993, 25 years all in all as a Soroptimist”.
Q: Can you share experiences with us of your 25 years as a Soroptimist?
“The best experiences have been being part of a global movement to alleviate a range of societal issues plaguing the world, and nationally (in Malaysia). Adopting the 17 SDG goals gives increased focus and priority to chosen community-based projects. A rewarding experience is our SI Bangsar’s (award-winning) ESD project for an Orang Asli settlement (indigenous community) in Janda Baik. Impacting the entire community in a holistic fashion, villagers were taught chicken rearing, then goat farming to supplement their income and protein needs, besides adopting eco-friendly farm practices. Collaborating with other NGOs resulted in more meaningful win-win outcomes”.
Q: What is your professional background?
“A Public Relations practitioner in Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, an industry lecturer and trainer in public relations. I love local and foreign travel with family and friends. On the foodie trail, always”.
Q: Most exciting part of working on the Committee?
“Working with Soroptimists and associates who represent a great diversity of talent, with valued knowledge to give and share. It’s learning and discovering new things, working hard and having fun too”.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about the Convention?
“The world is a global village (according to Marshall McLuhan). Exciting discourse on the Convention themes and plenary workshops, and the sisterhood bonding. What better way than to experience Malaysia’s tourism offerings – sun, sea, nature, food and culture – and our warm hospitality at this Convention. We are sure you’ll take home wonderful Convention memories”.
