At the heart of Soroptimist International’s work on the Sustainable Development Goals is the International President’s Appeal 2017 – 2019 on Women Water and Leadership. Whilst focusing on SDGs 4, 5 and 6, the President’s Appeal is also addressing many other elements of the SDGs as it promotes the equal inclusion of women in water resource governance over five continents.

The first time that non-governmental organizations were granted consultative status was in 1946 when Article 71 of the United Nations (UN) Charter opened the door for consultation with Non-Governmental Organizations. Initially, 41 organisations were chosen. Soroptimist International received General Consultative Status with the UN in 1987.
The SI President's Appeal 'Women, Water & Leadership' Appeal, has provided a $1,000.00 grant to Victoria Hinojosa to facilitate her participation in H2O Global Leaders and Water Innovation Lab training. The funding, originally donated to the Appeal by Soroptimist International Director of Advocacy, Beverly Bucur, embraces a key objective of the 'Women, Water & Leadership' - to ensure that women are empowered, and have the capacity, experience, and education needed to lead in water-related industries.
The Soroptimist International President’s Appeal ‘Women, Water & Leadership’ is working with women, girls and communities in Sabah and Sarawak, rural Malaysia, where communities lack access to a clean and safe supply of water, for cooking and drinking purposes.
