Soroptimist International at the United Nations

Soroptimist International (SI) holds General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Counci (ECOSOC) in New York, Geneva & Vienna since 1984.

In 2025, only 132 out of 6,616 NGOs held General Status. SI is one of just 13 NGOs focused on women’s rights and gender equality to do so. It gives SI access to UN bodies, human rights mechanisms, and special events, and allows participation in conferences, submission of statements, and sharing of best practices.
Furthermore, SI also holds a consultative status with:
  • United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
  • United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
  • United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

Is accredited with: United Nations Department of Global Communications (UNDGC)

Has a Special List Status with: International Labour Organization (ILO)

Is recognized by: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and holds a Liaison Status in Rome

Is accredited due to our ECOSOC Status with:

  • United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC)
  • United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)

Is accredited with The Commonwealth and part of the Independent Forum of Commonwealth Organisations (IFCO)

 
We have signed partnerships with:
  • Social Justice Coalition – ILO
  • Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) – ILO
  • EQUALS Global Partnerships – International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
