SI Convention Speakers – Anna Maria Tremonti, a true Global Voice!

Anna Maria Tremonti hosts the most popular radio program in Canada – CBC Radio’s The Current.
It first burst onto the airwaves in November of 2000, bringing
Tremonti’s mix of hard-edged journalism and hard-won empathy to
listeners across the country for 90-minutes a day. Anna Maria tackles
everything from the politics of the day, to the changes that affect our
society, to the stories of individuals whose personal journeys and
traumas affect us all.

Anna Maria is a former foreign correspondent and war
correspondent who spent close to a decade posted in Berlin, London,
Jerusalem and Washington.   Her ongoing coverage of major international
stories includes the breakup of the former Soviet Union, the war in
Bosnia, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the politics of the Arab
world, Europe and the United States.  She also has extensive
experience covering Canadian federal and provincial politics.

She has won two Gemini awards, and a life Achievement
Award from Women in Film and Television Toronto.  Her awards with The
Current include: the NY Festival – Gold for Best Talk Special:
Interview (2009), Bronze for Best Talk Show Host (2008), Bronze for Best
Coverage, Breaking News Story Longform (2007), Silver for
International Programming – Talk Special, Host Driven (2006); RTNDA
Information Program Award (2006); Science in Society Journalism Award
(2006); South Asian Journalists Association, Best Special Project –
Kabul (2004).
