World Health Day 2026 – Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland

Local Action to Improve Women’s Health

Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland Clubs

Across Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland, clubs are delivering a wide range of initiatives to improve women’s health and wellbeing, with a focus on access, awareness, and community-led support. While each project responds to local needs, together they reflect a shared commitment to making health information and services more accessible.

SI Mid-Eastern Jamaica, Jamaica

In Jamaica, SI Mid-Eastern Jamaica (Image below) has improved access to basic healthcare through community health fairs. Working with volunteer professionals and local partners, the club has provided screening and treatment to hundreds of people in low-income communities. These events include checks such as blood pressure and glucose testing, dental care, and vaccinations, alongside support for children through school supplies and health documentation.

SI Calcutta, India

In India, SI Calcutta has focused on building practical skills, organising cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for young women in rural areas. Delivered by medical professionals and supported through follow-up sessions, the training equips participants with life-saving skills and positions them as health resources within their communities.

SI Liverpool Clubs, UK

Clubs have also worked to improve understanding of heart health. In Liverpool and surrounding areas, Soroptimists partnered with healthcare specialists to deliver targeted events on cardiovascular health in women. These sessions combined expert information with individual health checks and have since been adapted and repeated in other communities, extending their reach.

Projects on Menopausal Health and Awareness

Several clubs have addressed menopause awareness, helping to reduce stigma and improve understanding. In the UK, SI Kenilworth delivered a free public event with specialist speakers, while SI Northampton established a regular Menopause Café, offering a space for women to share experiences. In Trinidad and Tobago, SI Chaguanas partnered with local experts to provide guidance on managing symptoms and improving wellbeing.

Alongside these activities, SIGBI has developed shared health resources, including accessible information cards that clubs can distribute locally.

Taken together, these initiatives show how clubs across SIGBI are responding to women’s health needs in practical ways—combining local knowledge, partnerships, and shared tools to improve access to information and support.
