Soroptimist International welcomes Maureen Maguire as President Elect

Soroptimist International (SI) President Sharon Fisher is delighted to announce Maureen Maguire as SI President Elect 2020-21.

Due to commence her duties from 01 July this year, Maureen began her journey as a Soroptimist in 1989 and is a member of SI Portadown in Northern Ireland. Serving at Club, Regional, Federation, and SI levels, Maureen held the role of President of Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Ireland  (SIGBI) in 2011/2012.

Maureen’s professional experience was gained working for 38 years within the Northern Ireland Health and Social Services sector, working in Procurement and Supply, Contracting, Facilities Management, and Primary Care sectors, before setting up her own Consultancy Company. With a Master’s Degree in Public Procurement, Maureen is a member of the Chartered Institute of Supply Management, and Health Services Management, in addition to being a Trustee and Board member of two organisations: Training for Women Network (TWN), and United Nations Association, Northern Ireland Region.

SIGBI President 2019-2020, Isobel Smith says: “SIGBI is delighted to have elected Maureen Maguire as the next Soroptimist International President. Our membership is behind her all the way and has every confidence in her ability to lead Soroptimist International towards the aspirational future that we all want for women and girls everywhere.”

Maureen believes that education and training is essential to achieve gender equality – empowering women and girls to be change leaders, and contribute to and benefit from an inclusive and sustainable future.

Her mantra is “If you Educate a Woman, you not only Educate her Family but also her Community”. Maureen explains: “My wish for the future is to ‘Press for Progress’ on education and training, and I am determined to ‘Seize every Opportunity’ to highlight the importance of education during my time at Soroptimist International”.

Maureen will take up her position as SI President on 01 January 2022 until 31 December 2023.
