SI Sponsors Internship Programme at UN New York

Soroptimist International sponsors intern programme at the United Nations, New York.

Every year NGO CSW/NY has between five to eight interns to help facilitate the mission of the committee to achieve Gender Equality and to do the bulk of the customer service during the actual Commission.  Since last year Soroptimist International has sponsored the internship program.

Bette Levy explains: "The interns are a diverse group of extremely bright & motivated women & men. They come from a variety of countries as well as ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. Most of the interns join the internship as part of their undergraduate or graduate school programme, however some do it totally voluntarily, because they hope to pursue a career in Human Rights, Public Policy or diplomatic corp. We will add several more interns by January 2017 as we gear up for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61).

SI & NGO CSW/NY benefit greatly from the interns, their time, energy & enthusiasm, is invaluable. They keep us on our toes and bring the youth perspective to all we do. This year to increase their learning experiences they are attending many meetings & side events at the UN, they have been assigned to other NGO committees that focus on both SI’s mission and NGO CSW/NY this adds to how much SI can cover here in NY at UN HQ.

New this year is that we are having them write blogs after they attend meetings or sessions at the UN below  you will find what they had to say about the experience after their first week (which coincided with the General Assembly & High Level Session).  From time to time we will post their blogs in the Global Voice or on the SI Webpage. If you would like to follow their learning experience check out the NGOCSW/NY website (WWW.NGOCSW.ORG) under about us.
