SI President 2022-2023

“It is my honour to serve Soroptimist International as your President during the 2022-2023 biennium – the beginning of our next 100 years. During this time, I am reflecting on the strength and ability of our members to deal with the many issues that the pandemic has caused over the past 22 months.  I am extremely proud of how Soroptimists have found ways to carry out their projects and create new and lasting friendship in such difficult and strange times.  This time has posed many challenges but also created new opportunities for innovative work by members.  On behalf of Soroptimist International may I thank you on behalf of the women and girls that you have supported and helped”.

A Statement from the President

At Soroptimist International, we are heartbroken by the devastation caused by Friday night’s earthquake in Morocco, and the catastrophic flooding in Libya in the early hours of Sunday. We are deeply saddened not only for the loss of lives, but also for the loss of homes, businesses, and livelihoods of whole communities, it is heart breaking to watch this on our television screens. We are glad to hear that our Moroccan Soroptimists are safe and, although we do not have any Soroptimist clubs in Libya, our hearts go out to all those affected by the floods.

Disasters like this could happen to any one of us, and times like these we need to come together to show our support and solidarity, to help rebuild the lives of those affected, and to provide hope for the future.

On behalf of the Soroptimists across the globe, we would like to extend our solidarity to both Morocco and Libya, for whom the humanitarian situation is critical. It is hard for anyone to truly understand the trauma faced by those living there, and we send our deepest sympathies to those in dire need of help.

This being said, words are not enough, we need to take action in order to provide the hope and support so desperately required. We need to come together to show the power of our collective Soroptimists membership, to show the power of sisterhood. As such we are asking Soroptimists to please consider giving generously to one of the Morocco Disaster Relief Funds that have been set up for this purpose.

On behalf of Soroptimists everywhere, I extend our deepest condolences and urge members to support our sisters in Morocco, and those in Libya.
