The Opening Ceremony will encompass a warm Malaysian welcome to your 21st SI Convention by Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingham, International Convention Chair, closely followed by the traditional Flag Ceremony; a remarkable and visual representation celebrating the breadth and diversity of the Soroptimist International organisation.
An Opening Speech will be given by SI President Mariet Verhoef-Cohen, followed by a Speech given by Her Majesty, KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Al-Marhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, Queen of Malaysia. The Convention will be officially declared open with a high-impact, powerful performance from ‘Hands Percussion’.
*Participants are requested to avoid wearing yellow attire for the Opening Ceremony as a mark of respect to Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia, who will be officiating the SI Convention KL 2019. Please be punctual and seated by 9.15am.

Walk in the Rainforest’ Taman Tugu
18 July 2019 | Depart KLCC area at 7.30 am
A wonderful opportunity awaits you to enjoy Taman Tugu, a rainforest reforestation project, dedicated to conserving 66 acres in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur City. Preserving 1000 rainforest trees the project will add 4,000 new trees of 500 species, to an existing 7 kilometer foot trail which begs to be explored.
The walk is scheduled for the morning 18th July 201, leaving from KLCC area at 7.30 am. A ‘Plant a Tree, Grow a Forest Ceremony’ will take place with SI President, Mariet Verhoef-Cohen, SI Immediate Past President, Yvonne Simpson and SI President Elect, Sharon Fisher, representing the SI Convention KL 2019, leaving a legacy for posterity as a gesture of SI’s commitment to a green sustainable world. Following the ceremony, those who sign up will take a walk in the forest (several options of distances will be offered), with expert guides. Light refreshments will be served.
