Soroptimist International President, Maureen Maguire is delighted to announce that Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific is now officially the new name for the Federation previously known as, Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific.
With membership spread across thirteen countries, this has been an important move for the Federation, reflecting the demographics of membership, alignment to UN Regional groupings and opportunities for growth. Soroptimist International was involved in early-day discussions regarding the name change for the Federation, with the SI Directors supporting the proposed new name, by way of a resolution taken during the SI Board meeting held in December 2021.
Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific Federation President Christine Johnstone congratulated members and confirmed that the vision and mission of the Federation has not changed and encouraged members to spread the news of the rebranding amongst the membership and partner organisations.
Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific (formerly known as Soroptimist International South West Pacific) was formed in 1978 and chartered by SI President Hilda Richardson. The Federation has 2,200 members in thirteen countries: Australia, Cambodia, Fiji, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands and Thailand. The Federation is governed by a Federation Board of twelve elected members, who manage and oversee the organisation.
SI President Maureen said “I congratulate Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific on taking this step to re-brand and change their name to align not only with the UN Regional Groupings, but also to provide members with a globally recognised identity. This progressive step will assist the Federation enormously in moving forward with partnerships and membership growth and I wish them every success in their endeavours”.
