Future of Justice: Technological Pathways for Women’s Access
United Nations Headquarters, ECOSOC Chamber Background
Time: 15:00 – 16:15 10 March 2026
Keynotes from ministers of Azerbaijan, Montenegro, Serbia, and Sierra Leone highlighted practical innovations: Türkiye’s Law 6284, supported by digital legal aid platforms; Azerbaijan’s AI-driven electronic document systems; and Serbia’s push for fully digital public services to support rural women. Panellists from Hungary and civil society stressed ethical data security, real-time inter-agency coordination for shelters, and human-centred tools that reduce procedural delays while protecting privacy.
The discussion emphasised inclusive digital infrastructure to reach women in crises, rural areas, or with disabilities, addressing gaps in conflict zones through resilient technology. Actionable steps emerged, including national digital platforms for legal information, criminalising technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), and reallocating funds for technological grants to boost participation.
As a Soroptimist, I was encouraged by how these technologies, when designed ethically, can bridge access gaps, enabling all women and girls to secure their rights without economic or geographic barriers. Reliable justice systems directly support economic empowerment.
Digital justice is not future technology; it is today’s tool for all women and girls.
