As a first-hour partner of the Social Coalition, Soroptimist International (SI) welcomes the Political Declaration adopted at the World Summit for Social Development, which confirms the Global Coalition for Social Justice, led by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as a key driver for advancing shared social goals. At the Summit, partners showcased their concrete contributions.

On 5 November, the Global Coalition held a high-level forum in Doha to rally action for implementing the Declaration. Chaired by ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo, the event gathered world leaders, ministers and social partners to discuss how cooperation can turn commitments into results. Mr Houngbo stressed that today’s challenges require renewed solidarity and multilateral action. United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Annalena Baerbock added that social development is about realising rights—not just dreams—and that concrete action is required.

The Government of Qatar announced it had joined the Coalition as its 400th partner, reaffirming its commitment to social justice, a just transition, and stronger social protection. Over a dozen other partners presented new initiatives aligned with the Declaration.

Representing social partners, the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) applauded the actions taken and expressed full support for the Coalition. Furthermore, they emphasised the importance of strong dialogue for a truly “social” approach in the workplace.

Closing the forum, UN Under-Secretary-General Li Junhua highlighted the Coalition’s potential to turn the Doha Declaration into concrete progress.

Established in 2023, the Coalition now brings together Member States, civil society, and private partners worldwide to advance social justice and decent work through joint advocacy, shared knowledge, and practical action.
