Soroptimist International is proud to stand in solidarity with organisations worldwide by signing the global petition ‘No Peace Without Women’. This petition calls on world leaders, the United Nations and regional bodies to finally make women equal decision-makers in shaping peace and security. The petition urges world leaders and the UN to take concrete action to fully implement Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and CEDAW General Recommendation No. 40.
For 25 years, the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1325 has been clear: women’s participation is not optional — it is essential to achieving peace, security and human rights. Yet, women still make up fewer than 10 per cent of peace negotiators worldwide. Global funding for gender equality in peacebuilding remains less than 1 per cent, while women human rights defenders and peace builders continue to face threats, harassment and violence.
This petition is a call to action — and time is running out. Its goal is to gather 10,000 signatures by December 2025, ahead of its delivery to the UN Secretary-General, the UN Security Council, and key regional bodies (AU, EU, League of Arab States, OAS, ASEAN) before CSW 70 in 2026.
The petition calls for:
- Parity by 2030: equal representation of women in all peace negotiations, mediation teams, and post-conflict governance
- Funding justice: allocate at least 15 per cent of peace and security budgets to gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Accountability mechanisms: with annual public reporting to track progress
- Protection for women peacebuilders: from threats, reprisals, and gender-based violence
As Soroptimist International, we believe humanity needs women’s leadership — not as tokens, but as equal decision-makers. Without women at the table, there is no sustainable peace.
