  Executive Summary

In this chapter, we present who we are, what we do, and how we work.

Read all about our collective global impact in education and leadership – including action, advocacy, and awareness raising. In this chapter, you can also read two of Soroptimist’s official UN statements on education and leadership.

This chapter presents the worldwide situation facing women and girls in the areas of education and leadership.  Packed with statistics, challenges, and solutions, this chapter presents the context for Soroptimist work to improve the lives of women and girls. The chapter concludes with recommendations.

Soroptimist work in formal education, non-formal education, and leadership for women and girls is presented in this chapter, looking at our best practices. For each project, we explore the need, the activities undertaken to meet that need, and just why the project is considered ‘excellent’. This chapter includes, for each project, a set of ‘SoroptiTips’ on designing and implementing projects of excellence.

In this chapter we explore different regions of the world, looking at the most pressing challenges and the Soroptimist presence.

Here we profile SI countries, including both international statistics and Soroptimist statistics. Each country is profiled on one page, providing a simple resource for members all over the world to learn about the context in which they are working.

Here you can find each of five Soroptimist Spotlight sections, highlighting different areas of work in education and leadership with case studies.

And, finally, the appendices, including a technical explanation of statistics and a compendium of SoroptiTips.
